ITHACA, N.Y. — Mecklenburg Road in Ithaca was closed for several hours Tuesday for a head-on crash that sent both drivers to local trauma centers.
The crash occurred at about 6:50 p.m. Tuesday on the 1300 block of Mecklenburg Road in the Town of Ithaca, according to the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office. Two vehicles were involved in the head-on crash.
It took about 30 minutes to extricate the occupants trapped in the vehicles, the Ithaca Fire Department said. One driver was transported by Guthrie Air with serious injuries, the IFD said, and the other driver was transported by Bangs Ambulance to local trauma centers.
The sheriff’s office said the conditions of both drivers “are undetermined at this time.”
Mecklenburg Road was shut down for several hours at Westhaven Road and Rachel Carson Way while the scene was investigated.
The sheriff’s office responded along with New York State Park Police, the Ithaca Police Department, Ithaca Fire Department and Bangs Ambulance.
