ITHACA, N.Y. — Ithaca police are searching for four people who reportedly stabbed a man early Saturday morning on the Ithaca Commons.

At about 7 a.m., police said they responded to a residence on Cleveland Avenue regarding an assault that had occurred overnight. The man told police that at about 1 a.m. Saturday, he was walking in Home Dairy Alley when he was confronted by at least four suspects who assaulted him unprovoked. He said he did not know the suspects.

After the confrontation, the man ran to a friend’s residence on Cleveland Avenue and fell asleep. When he woke up later in the morning, he realized he had been stabbed.

Police say the man sustained a “significant laceration” to his chest and was transported to a local hospital.

The only description of the suspects is that they are four black men. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the Ithaca Police Department.
