ITHACA, N.Y. — The Community IPD Barbecue is back this year. The event will feature food, activities for kids, games and music.
The first Community IPD Barbecue took place in 2015 and drew at least 100 people. It was created so there could be an informal setting for the community to get to know officers from the Ithaca Police Department. The event also took place in 2016, but did not take place in 2017.
The event will go from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at Conway Park on Cascadilla Street in Ithaca.
There will be a live radio broadcast on 91.7 WICB, a bounce house, face painting and lawn games. For food, there will be hamburgers, hot dogs, as well as vegan options and other food.
The event is free and open to the public.
In a statement, Ithaca Police Chief Pete Tyler said the event is a great opportunity for officers to connect and reconnect with the community.
“We’ve got a lot of great officers doing a lot of great things in our community, and we’ve certainly got a lot of great people doing a lot of great things in this community too,” Tyler said. “I can’t wait for this barbecue to get everyone together. Please join us, I promise you it will be a great day.”
