ITHACA, N.Y. — A tractor trailer fire spread to a nearby structure Wednesday evening in Ithaca. Ithaca firefighters were able to quickly contain the fire. No injuries were reported.

At about 9:30 p.m., emergency responders headed to the area of the Ithaca Agway on Route 13 South/Fulton Street in Ithaca after multiple reports to 911 of a building on fire.

When crews arrived on scene, they found a tractor trailer fire had spread to a nearby storage building. The IFD said firefighters knocked down most of the fire in the trailer and then went into the building to put out the fire. After extinguishing the remaining fire, firefighters ventilated the smoke from the building.

Bangs Ambulance stood by on scene and officers from the Ithaca Police Department as well as Ithaca Fire Police secured the area and rerouted traffic. Off-duty fire personnel were called in along with Cayuga Heights, Newfield and Lansing Fire Departments to cover other calls.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The road was closed for a couple hours but reopened around 12:30 a.m. Thursday.
