TOMPKINS COUNTY, N.Y. — The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office is searching for the person responsible for causing a boat crash and fleeing the scene this weekend on Cayuga Lake.

At about 10:48 p.m. Saturday, the suspect crashed into another occupied boat, causing significant damage. The incident occurred directly east of Taughannock Falls State Park, shortly after a fireworks event. The sheriff’s office said the suspect fled the scene of the crash headed south on Cayuga Lake.

“Observers on scene stated that the offending vessel appeared to have a white bottom, red/maroon top side, and was approximately 21 ft in length with a canvas folding top,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release. They also said they assume the suspect’s vessel has damage to its bow and port-side.

The investigation is ongoing, and the sheriff’s office asks that anyone with information regarding the incident contact the non-emergency dispatch line  at 607-272-2444, the main Sheriff’s Office at 607-257-1345, or the Tip Line at 607-266-5420.
