ITHACA, N.Y. — While serving a search warrant Tuesday morning, Ithaca police found a handgun and heroin with fentanyl in an Ithaca woman’s hotel room on Stewart Avenue.
At about 6 a.m. Tuesday, the Ithaca Police SWAT Team and Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant on 39-year-old Aisha Smith, who was staying at an inn on the 500 block of Stewart Avenue. During the search, police found two separate baggies containing suspected heroin on a bedside table, according to court records.
One of the baggies that was found contained five smaller, individually wrapped baggies that held suspected heroin, records state. Field tests done showed the presence of heroin and fentanyl.
The heroin found weighed about 6.8 grams, records state. According to court records, police said the “manner in which the suspected heroin was packaged for sale in addition to the digital scale found in close proximity is indicative of the sale of heroin on the streets.”
Police also found a .44 caliber revolver-style handgun and ammunition in the desk drawer of Smith’s hotel room, police said. Smith does not have a permit to possess the weapon, records stated.
Smith was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, both felonies.
Smith was arraigned in Ithaca City Court on the charges. She was remanded to Tompkins County Jail in lieu of $15,000 cash or $30,000 bond.
