ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell University Police have arrested an Ithaca man after they say he hit a construction worker and fled the scene.

On Monday morning, police say a construction worker was struck by someone speeding in a white Ford Mustang. The driver fled the scene after striking a 56-year-old flag worker on the 100 block of Cradit Farm Drive.

The construction worker suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported by Bangs Ambulance to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania.

Police say the same driver was reported to have sped through the work zone earlier, with the driver failing to comply with the workers’ directions to slow and stop the vehicle.

After an investigation, police say they were able to identify the driver as 25-year-old Adriaan Schiltkamp, of Ithaca. He was ticketed for failing to comply with a flag person, driving left of pavement markings and the misdemeanors of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and reckless driving.

Cornell University Environmental Health and Safety and the Cayuga Heights Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
