ITHACA, N.Y. —The Downtown Ithaca Alliance (DIA) is pleased to announce the Commons now has a new outdoor play space.
On Thursday, DIA staffers installed a 225-square-foot portable playscape consisting of many playful parts. The moveable playset is located on the Commons near American Crafts by Robbie Dein and will serve as a temporary recreational source while the Commons playground remains closed during portions of the Harold’s Square construction project. The playscape will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily (weather permitting) throughout the year.
The play set includes soft, durable, and colorful polyurethane foam pieces, a hard covered tunnel, and a couple of multicolored vinyl cover playmats that are strong and pliable. It is perfectly designed for youth ages 2 to 5 years old.
“While the Commons playground is closed, we want to ensure that the area’s youth have a nice place space to enjoy during their visit to our pedestrian mall. This temporary playscape will serve as a great source of entertainment for our younger visitors,” says DIA Executive Director Gary Ferguson.
The Commons’ seasonal playscape, is made possible through funding from the DIA, Harold’s Square, and The City of Ithaca with support from Jillian’s Drawers, Alphabet Soup, and local developer John Guttridge.
