ITHACA, N.Y. — With the Ithaca Festival and Pride Month coming up soon, Finger Lakes PULSE is hosting an event this weekend to plan and coordinate the PRIDE contingency in the Ithaca Festival parade.
Finger Lakes PULSE is an advocacy-oriented organization that supports the LGBTQ+ community in the Finger Lakes area. It was founded by eight friends in 2016.
In a previous interview with The Ithaca Voice, co-founder and legislator Anne Koreman said there was a need in the community for an LGBTQ organization focused on service and advocacy.
“After the massacre at Pulse nightclub in Orlando last year, there was a gathering on The Commons but there was no organization where people could go,” Koreman said.
Along with the Ithaca Festival and parade, LGBT Pride Month is also coming up in June.
The planning event Pride & Beyond will go from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Cornell Cooperative Extension, 615 Willow Ave. in Ithaca.
