ITHACA, N.Y. — Prepare to lose an hour of sleep this weekend as daylight saving time goes into effect — but on the bright side, more daylight is ahead.

Along with the upcoming clock change, the Ithaca Fire Department says it’s a good time to change the batteries of your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors at home.

Prepare to set clocks ahead one hour for daylight saving time, which begins at 2 a.m. Sunday.

“This also serves a great reminder to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in your home, or test them if you have a new detector with a battery that is good for 10 years,” the IFD said in a news release.

Anyone with questions or who needs assistance should contact their local fire house.
