DANBY, N.Y. — Firefighters throughout the county are responding to a major blaze Tuesday night on Danby Road.

Around 9:11 p.m., firefighters were called to 2016 Danby Road after a fire was reported at the home.

Within a few minutes, the blaze had engulfed the entire home and the burning structure could be smelled from Ithaca.

Brooktondale Fire Chief Chris Jordan said his crew was responding to provide mutual aid to the Danby Volunteer Fire Company, the lead agency. He said around 10 p.m. that it was unknown if anyone was in the home.

A Bangs Ambulance first responder said nobody had been transported from the scene in an ambulance.

Others fire departments who responded to the major blaze include the Candor Fire Department, Newfield Fire Company, West Danby Fire Station and Ithaca Fire Department.

Correction: This story mistakenly initially reported that the fire happened Wednesday night. It happened Tuesday night.
