ITHACA, N.Y. — A man robbed the popular Shortstop Deli early Sunday morning, the second armed robbery reported in Ithaca this week.
Police said that around 4:21 a.m., a male went into the deli at 200 W. Seneca St., displayed a handgun, and ran from the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash. He was last seen running up North Albany Street.
“The suspect was described as male, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood up and a ski mask covering their face, and light colored jeans,” police said in a news release.
Shortstop Deli is a 24-hour restaurant with surveillance cameras, though no images have been released from the incident.
The robbery is the second one to happen in a week.
On Tuesday, a man robbed the Byrne Dairy at gunpoint, stealing cash and all of the Newport cigarettes in the store. Police have not taken anyone into custody for that robbery, but described the suspect as a white man, about five-feet eight-inches tall with a skinny build, light-colored eyelashes and blue eyes. The suspect was wearing a face mask and a light gray hooded sweatshirt with the hood covering his face during the robbery.
The Bryne Dairy, at 215 N. Meadow St., is located just three blocks away from Shortstop Deli.
The Ithaca Police Department could not be reached for further comment by publication time.
