ITHACA, N.Y. — A 14-year-old was taken into custody Monday afternoon after police say the teen shot out a window with a BB gun. Nine other similar vandalism incidents have happened over the past few days and police are looking for more suspects.
Police said in a news release that the teen was caught after a vandalism was reported at 3:33 p.m. on the 300 block of North Cayuga Street. Police say the teen was taken into custody after being found with a BB gun. The teen was detained and the case was transferred to the Tompkins County Family Court .
According to a post on the Fall Creek Listserv, several similar vandalism incidents happened on the 300 and 400 blocks of Utica Street on Christmas.
The post states:
Between 9:30 and 10 pm on Christmas night, a couple of kids on bikes went up Utica street and on the 300 and 400 blocks shot out windows on several cars. My neighbor across the street was one of the victims and heard it and several members of their family chased the kids who took off. The police were very prompt in response but as far as I know no one was caught. What were 2 kids doing out that late on Christmas night ARMED with some kind of weapon and shooting out vehicle windows?
Chief of Police Pete Tyler also said that other suspects are being sought in regard to the incidents.
“The officers did a great job today capturing the suspect. We believe there are others involved, though. I am asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect(s) in these incidents. Someone probably knows who the other people are that are involved. Please be vigilant and notify police of any suspicious behavior that you observe,” Tyler said in a news release.
