ITHACA, N.Y. — Winter is on the way. If you have spare time and a shovel, consider volunteering to shovel snow for local senior citizens.

The Tompkins County Office for the Aging is updating its list of snow shovelers. The deep snow and icy sidewalks are dangerous for everyone, but especially for seniors, the Office for the Aging says. Many seniors are unable to remove snow from their sidewalks without help.

Anyone who is interested in helping seniors by shoveling or plowing, either on a paid or volunteer basis, should call the Tompkins County Office for the Aging at 607-274-5482.

Even if your name was on the list last year, the office asks that residents notify them to be listed again.
