ITHACA, N.Y. — The Fall portion of the biannual Friends of the Tompkins County Public Library book sale is underway.

Items to be sold consist of donations made year-round, and include books, puzzles, video games, DVDs, CDs, and ephemera such as postcards and bookplates.

The sale takes place during the course of three ‘long weekends’ (Oct. 7-9; Oct. 14-16; Oct. 18, 21-24) at 509 Esty St., the permanent location of the organization.

According to Martha Gray, assistant coordinator and historian at the ‘Friends’ corporation, last year’s sales collectively netted some $400,000. Proceeds of the fundraiser go to the Tompkins County Public Library, as well as numerous grants to local programs and projects which promote literacy.

The official count for donations to the Fall sale has been calculated at 262,000 items.
