ITHACA, N.Y. — This weekend, there will be a 5K to benefit a local family that has been deeply affected by Huntington’s Disease.

The community is coming together to support the Barlow family with the “Trick or Trot” costumed fun run in Interlaken. There is the option of a 5K run or walk or a one-mile walk.

The event will help support the Barlow family, who lost their father this summer to Huntington’s Disease, a genetic disorder that leads to the deterioration of mental and physical abilities. One of their daughters, Lily, who is 11, also has the disease.

There is no cure or way to slow down Huntington’s Disease. Money raised will help Lily’s mother, Addie, focus on her needs without worrying about finances.

As part of the event, there will be food from local food trucks, awards for costumes and a raffle. The cost is $10 per runner with a maximum of $30 per family. Registration begins at noon Sunday at South Seneca Elementary School in Interlaken.

The run begins at 1 p.m.

Visit the event Facebook page for updates and more information.
