TRUMANSBURG, N.Y. — As of Tuesday afternoon, there were still few details available about a man found dead off the Gorge Trail at Taughannock Falls State Park.
First responders were called around 11 a.m. Friday to the trail after a woman saw a man who appeared to be injured about a half-mile down the trail.
New York State Parks spokesperson Dan Keefe later confirmed that the man was dead. He offered few other details. New York State Park Police, the lead investigating agency in this case, has not responded to multiple request for updates about the incident.
Lieutenant Dan Scherer, of the Trumansburg Fire Department, has added that the man apears to have been in his 20s and was found with no identification on him. He said he does not know if the NYSP police have identified the person yet, or if they have determined how he died.
Scherer said the man was found about 100 feet down the gorge in an area that would have been difficult for most people to see. The woman who found him was also off the trail, looking down at the gorge from a bluff.
The New York State Park Police, Trumansburg and Ithaca fire departments, and Bangs and Trumansburg ambulances assisted at the scene.
