ITHACA, N.Y. – A Corning man pleaded not-guilty in Tompkins County Court on Friday afternoon after being accused of attempted rape in 2014.
Gary L. Havens, 42, was initially charged for the allegations in April, concluding an ongoing New York State Police investigation. According to police, Havens attempted to engage in sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 15 on an unknown date in February 2014.
Havens was indicted last Thursday on a single-count indictment charging him with second-degree attempted rape.
“This case presents all sorts of challenges,” Judge John C. Rowley said at the arraignment on Friday. “If ultimately we need a trial, we will set a date.”
Havens, represented by Attorney Kristine Shaw, entered a not-guilty plea to the charge. He has since been released from custody on a $2,000 bail.
