ITHACA, N.Y. — Ithaca’s Southside Community Center will be kicking off their annual Juneteenth Festival on Friday, taking part in the oldest known worldwide celebration of the legal emancipation of enslaved Black people in the U.S.

This year’s festival, which is themed ‘Stay Woke,’ will begin with a block party from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. outside the community center at 305 S. Plain St.

Southside will be hosting six events throughout the weekend to continue the celebration, which will be open to the public. Events will include a Harlem Nights themed party, a teach-in, a film night featuring Crooklyn, and an Honoring Father’s commemoration.

Block Party Festival: Friday, June 16th 4 PM – 9 PM

Harlem Nights Party (25+): Friday, June 16th 10:30 PM – 2 AM

Real Talk: Teach-In: Saturday, June 17th 10:30 AM – 3 PM

Outdoor Film: Crooklyn: Saturday, June 17th 8:30 PM – 10:30 PM

Black Out Party (18+): Saturday, June 17th 10:30 PM – 2:00 AM

Honoring Father’s Event: Sunday, June 18th 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Our theme for 2017 is Stay Woke!
