On Monday April 3, 2017 at about 11:13 PM, the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office responded to a possible burglary in progress at a residence in the 500 block of Warren Road in the Town of Ithaca. Occupants of the residence reported that an unknown male subject armed with what appeared to be a large knife entered the residence uninvited.
The subject ascended to the second floor of the residence where he entered a room and remained. All occupants of the residence were able to exit the residence without incident or injury. Upon arrival at the residence the first floor was secured by deputies with members of the New York State Police securing the exterior of the residence. At that time the Ithaca Police Department SWAT was activated and responded to the scene.
Several attempts were made to contact the subject by both verbal commands and telephonic contact but were unsuccessful. An amplified acoustical device was deployed in an effort to make contact with the subject. After several attempts with the amplified acoustical device were made SWAT members were able to make verbal contact with the subject who surrendered peacefully and without incident.
The subject was uninjured but was transported to a local medical facility for evaluation. The investigation into the incident is continued by the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office.
Assisting at the scene were the New York State Police, Ithaca Police Department, and Bangs Ambulance.
