This time of year brings on the urge to get outside and start to enjoy our natural areas again. The trails and gorges are one of the things that make Ithaca great. It is also one of the most dangerous times of year to be near our gorges.

Trails are extremely slick and unstable and will remain closed until they can be serviced and officially opened.

Stay out of the water and out of restricted spaces. The local waterways are bitterly cold, can be deadly and should be avoided! Follow all warning signs.

Failure to do so is unlawful and puts yourself and rescuers in danger.

Always carry a cell phone with you and let others know where you will be in case there is an emergency.

Follow these tips and enjoy the season. Be Smart, Be Safe!
