ITHACA, N.Y. — A winter storm warning is in effect for Tompkins County until 1 p.m. Monday, causing schools in the area to be closed or have delayed openings.

Dryden and Groton school districts are closed while Lansing and Newfield school districts are starting two hours late.

According to the National Weather Service, the area could see as much as four inches of snow Monday. At times, snow could fall as fast as an inch per hour. Winds are expected to be between 15-25 mph with 40 mph gusts.

Weather service officials are encouraging people to not travel, except in the case of an emergency, due to hazardous road conditions caused by icy roadways, low visibility, and blowing, drifting snow.

Weather conditions are expected to improve throughout the morning.

This is a developing story.
