ITHACA, N.Y. — Another discussion revolving around Ithaca’s community read of “The New Jim Crow” by Michelle Alexander is happening Monday night.
The nationally renowned book explores the complex inequities of people of color, specifically black or African American males, in the criminal justice system and how those inequities impact every facet of communities of color.
Organizers released the following information about Monday night’s event:
Today, February 13th, Civic Ensemble and ReEntry Theater are hosting the New Jim Crow Community Read February event from 5:30pm – 7:00pm at the Beverly J. Martin Gym. This month’s theme is “Make America Safe Again,” and corresponds with Chapter 5 of The New Jim Crow. As always, you do not need to have read the chapter to attend the event.
Dinner and childcare are provided at each public event. If you need childcare, please let a volunteer at the sign in table know and they will direct you to our childcare providers. Please see the red arrow on this map to find the accessible entrance (on West Buffalo Street) to the BJM gym.
