ITHACA, N.Y. — A new sub shop, DiBella’s Subs, is officially opening in Ithaca on Thursday.

The Rochester-based sub shop is opening its 46th restaurant at 222 Elmira Road in Ithaca. The company has 45 restaurants in six states.

DiBella’s started as a small, family-run corner grocery in 1918 in Rochester and gradually turned into an Italian import store and deli, according to their website. Now, DiBella’s says it still adheres to old-fashioned baking techniques.

DiBella’s hype is in the bread, which is fresh and baked in-house through the day. As the restaurant describes it in a news release, “DiBella’s dough is aged on a daily basis for a minimum of 16 hours before baking and each roll is scored and seasoned by hand before going into the oven. The rolls are baked a minimum of twice a day.”

DiBella’s also makes salads, cookies and a variety of side items. They also offer catering options.

The sub shop officially opens at 10 a.m. Thursday. Check them out to see if they live up to their claim that they make “the best sub you’ve ever had.”
