Update (3:47 p.m. Saturday) — The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim of a fatal crash Friday as Brent D. Handy, 44, of Ithaca.
DRYDEN, N.Y. — A man was killed in a Friday night crash in the town of Dryden after the vehicle slammed into a tree, police said.
Officials responded to the area near 1651 Ellis Hollow Road at 8:17 p.m. where they found the Ford SUV crashed headfirst into a tree.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sgt. Ryan Slocum, of the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, said police are in the process of notifying the person’s family and no identity is being released at this time.
He said police are still determining what caused the crash.
The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Department, Dryden Ambulance, and Varna Fire & Rescue are responding to the scene.
