The following is a partially edited press release from the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office.

COVERT, N.Y. — Police have released the name of a woman killed in a fatal crash Saturday.

Seneca Sheriff’s Deputies report that Marie L Perez, 41, of Romulus was northbound on Rt 89, when she apparently lost control rounding a curve, and her 2001 Ford Focus skidded across the road- and into the path of a southbound vehicle- a 2013 Chevrolet silverado pickup truck driven by Jonathan C Cupp, 44, of Romulus. The passengers side of the Perez vehicle was struck by the front of the Cupp vehicle. Deputies report Perez was pronounced dead at the scene by Seneca County Coroner Deb Kelley.

Perez’s children- who were rear seat passengers, age 6 years and age 5 months, were in child restraints and survived the crash. They were transported by Trumansburg Ambulance and South Seneca Ambulance to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse where they were checked over and treated for injuries.

Bangs Ambulance also responded to the scene, transporting Jonathan Cupp, his son age 13, and another passenger also age 13, to Upstate where they were checked over and treated for injuries.

Deputies report the Ford Focus was demolished and the Silverado also sustained heavy damage and both were towed from the scene. Deputies were assisted at the scene by Trumansburg Fire and the NYSP, and the road was closed for nearly 4 hours while the Sheriff’s Office accident reconstruction unit investigated the accident and the scene was cleaned up. Deputies report the investigation is continuing.
