ITHACA, N.Y. — Ithaca attorney Jeffrey W. Butcher was indicted Friday morning on two felony charges for lying in court and allegedly planting evidence in a Tompkins County Legislator’s vehicle.

Butcher, 53, is charged first-degree felony perjury and tampering with evidence.

According to Ithaca City Court documents, Butcher lied on the stand May 2 in the Tompkins County Family Court. He allegedly said in court that he did not use a Tracfone to report drugs in a white Hyundai at the airport to a Tompkins County 911 dispatcher. New York State Police allege that evidence exists to prove otherwise.

The white Hyundai belongs to Tompkins County Legislator Michael Sigler.

Lansing Court records recently made available show that a white powdery substance, an orange powdery substance, orange and pink pills, and a green leafy substance “that had the appearance and odor” of marijuana were found in a white Hyundai located at the Tompkins Regional Airport.

Butcher is being accused of planting those items in the vehicle and falsely reporting to a Tompkins County 911 dispatcher that he saw a vehicle  “chock full of drugs” in the airport long-term parking lot on Feb. 15.
