LANSING, N.Y. — An Ithaca woman is facing a felony charge after police say she hit a corrections officer in the face.

Emily J. Cornell, 19 is charged with second-degree assault.

Officials said the charge stems from an incident that allegedly happened on Nov. 5 while Cornell was in custody on an unrelated charge. The officer involved was injured, police said.

Cornell was arraigned at the town of Lansing Court and was initially remanded to the Tompkins County Jail in lieu of $250 dollars cash or $1,000 bond. A jail official said Wednesday morning that Cornell is still in custody.
