ITHACA, N.Y. — A man was airlifted to the hospital with ” potentially life threatening injuries” after a being hit by a vehicle Wednesday night, police said in a statement.

Tompkins County Sheriff’s deputies were called around 8 p.m. to the 3400 block of Jacksonville Road in the town of Ulysses to respond to the incident.

Police said that the man was driving a Nissan Frontier traveling south on Jacksonville Road and crashed into a guide wire, mailbox, and then into a ditch. He crossed then attempted to cross the street “wearing dark, non-reflective clothing” and was hit by a Ford Focus traveling north on the road.

Officials said they are declining to name any people involved in the crash pending the notification of family. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
