ITHACA, NY – On October 21, 2016 at approximately 6:54 p.m. Ithaca Police Officers responded to the 200 block of S. Geneva St. for a reported assault. When Officers arrived on scene it was learned that the female victim had been attacked while walking towards the Ithaca Commons. The victim reported that she was struck from behind in the head by an unknown person. When the victim fell to the ground, her attacker continued to hit her in the face and was attempting to pull the victim’s purse away from her. The victim let out several loud screams, and the attacker fled the area on foot in the direction of Geneva and Clinton St. The victim was able to retain all of her property from the attacker, and suffered minor injuries.

Several people in the area reported hearing the victim screaming. Some came to her aid after the attacker had already fled the area. The description of the suspect was unclear, although they were described wearing jeans and a dark green hooded sweatshirt. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Ithaca Police Department. This incident is still under investigation.
