HORSEHEADS, NY – A one-car accident on I-86 in the Town of Horseheads claimed the life of 19-year old Luciano M. Servetto, of Ithaca, early on Thursday morning according to the Chemung County Sheriff’s Department.

Two others, driver Jonathan T. Byrd, 27, of Ithaca and passenger Carlton J. Clinton, 32, of Elmira were also injured in the accident. Byrd was treated for minor injuries at St. Joseph’s Hospital, while Clinton remains hospitalized with serious injuries.

Servetto died on the scene from his injuries.

The exact cause of the crash is unknown, but authorities say the vehicle crashed while attempting to turn off I-86 West onto exit 54 toward Ithaca. The accident occurred at around 12:15 a.m. on Thursday morning.

The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the New York State Police, Elmira Police Department, Horseheads Police Department. Town and Country Fire Department, New York State Department of Transportation, and the Chemung County Coroner Office. The investigation is continuing at this time.
