ITHACA, N.Y. — Thanks to continued support from Ithaca and Tompkins County community members, The Ithaca Voice is in a position to hire two part-time positions: a reporter and sales position.
The right person for the reporting job should be gritty, determined and have an insatiable curiosity. The right person for the sponsorship sales position should be somebody who likes to hustle and can be organized enough to handle multiple accounts.
Both people should be community oriented and familiar with the Ithaca or Tompkins County area.
We look forward to meeting people who aspire to be the newest members of our Voice family.
The job descriptions are posted below.
Position: Part-time crime, courts and general assignments reporter
Pay: $500 per month
Requirements: Experience preferred but willing to train the right person that’s passionate about hyper-local news and the community.
The Ithaca Voice is looking to hire an enthusiastic reporter to primarily cover crime and courts in Ithaca and Tompkins County. The right candidate should, above all, be enthusiastic about reporting news quickly, accurately and with context to larger issues at play.
The public safety beat will be the reporter’s main focus, but other opportunities will be available to cover government, dining and other happenings in the county.
While candidates with basic experience in news reporting or those studying journalism are preferred, we are willing to train the right person who may need more editorial guidance.
It’s also important that the reporter is able to mesh with the rest of our tight-knit staff and bring their own curiosity and voice to the table.
The position is part-time, and the way you spread shifts throughout the week is negotiable. We are willing to work with the schedules of students or those with other employment.
