ITHACA, NY – An Ithaca man is facing charges after police were asked to check on his welfare, according to a news release from the New York State Police.

On Aug. 31, 2016, at about 6:18 p.m., New York State Police at Ithaca arrested Joshua L. Wurgler, 21, of Ithaca, for the misdemeanors of operating a motor vehicle while ability impaired by drugs and criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th degree.

This arrest occurred after troopers were asked to locate and check the welfare of a man who had been acting strangely and then drove away from the Cayuga Medical Center in the Town of Lansing.

The suspect’s vehicle was seen and stopped by an Ithaca Police Officer on Brindley Street in the City of Ithaca. An investigation by troopers determined that Wurgler was driving while impaired by drugs. A search of his vehicle found that he unlawfully possessed a small amount of heroin.

Wurgler was issued tickets returnable to the City of Ithaca court on Sept. 14.
