ITHACA, N.Y. — Streets Alive! first debuted in Ithaca in 2012 and the tradition lives on with another activity-packed event this year. Here are just a handful of the fun things you’ll find as you walk the length of Plain Street from on Sunday, Sept. 25, from 1 to 5 p.m.
Find more information about the events, locations and schedule here.
1) Open Roads for pedestrians
Streets alive is strictly a no cars zone. Instead, the streets will be open for pedestrians, chalk art, games and street performances.
Road closures include South Plain Street from Green Street to Elmira Road and West Clinton Street from Corn to Albany Street. Any cars left in these areas after noon on Sunday will be towed.
2) Guac the Vote!
Thank You Arts & Culture Section Sponsors
Bici-Cocina owners Sam Bosco and Carolina Osario Gil are the hot spot to be for free guacamole for those registering to vote. They will be set up from 1 – 5 p.m. on Sept. 25 at the Southside Community Center at 305 S. Plain St.

If you love bikes, there will be plenty for you to do, especially on Clinton Street between Plain and Corn streets. There, you’ll find the Ithaca Youth Bureau’s Bike Rodeo, be able to test out TCAT’s bus bike route, attend a quick-fix bike clinic and try out electric bikes from Press Bay Alley’s Boxy Bikes.
4) Circus Culture
At 2, 3 and 4 p.m. there will be Circus Culture performances at the intersection of Plain Street and Elmira Road. There promises to be at least one special acrobatic act, so check in on this one throughout the day.
5) Cultura! Ithaca’s Latino Multicultural Festival
Part of the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month in Ithaca is happening during Streets Alive! The festival will be at the Southside Community Center from noon to 6 p.m.
6) GIAC Jumpers
The GIAC Jumpers will be putting on a special International Jumping Demo from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m. at the intersection on Clinton Street between Plain and Albany at 1:30 p.m.

8) The Physics Bus
The Physics Bus will be bringing their fun science experiments to Streets Alive. As always, it’s a great place for people young and old to learn about and have fun with physics.
