The following is a news release from the Ithaca Fire Department. It was NOT written by The Ithaca Voice. 

ITHACA, N.Y. — A man was rescued from the waters of Cayuga Lake in Ithaca Wednesday evening thanks to efforts of his friends and First Responders.

Tompkins County Dispatch received a 911 call around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday from a house in the 800 block of Taughannock Blvd. stating that a person had drown in the lake.

The Ithaca Fire Department along with Bangs Ambulance, Ithaca Police and New York State Parks Police responded to the scene.

Friends were able to pull the 41 year old male from the water and began CPR. Firefighters and Paramedics took over care and placed the man in a stokes basket and used the Fire Rescue boat to transport him to the marina where an ambulance was waiting.

A landing zone was set up at Cass Park and Life Net Medivac flew the man to Upstate Medical center for treatment for his injuries.

The entire rescue took approximately one hour. The current condition of the man is not known at this time and Police are investigating the circumstances of the event.
