ITHACA, N.Y. — A gofundme page has been started for a man who was critically injured in a Caroline bike accident last week.

Ryan Ford, of Ithaca, was airlifted to a regional trauma center after falling off his mountain bike on a trail at the Shindagin Hollow State Forest around 7 p.m. last Tuesday.

He is currently in critical condition with more than 15 breaks and fractures, including several on his face and skull, according to the gofundme page.

The page, run by a family friend, states:

“Ryan is pending being transferred to a traumatic brain injury rehabilitation center once he is medically stabilized. And then we are unsure what the next steps will be as it is one day at a time from here – at this point we can hope that with time and love he will heal.
Per the request of several supporters, this account has been setup to offer financial support from the sidelines and help ease the extreme financial burden that Ryan will be facing during his journey to recovery.  Ryan is a fighter and has an amazing support team of his family and friends behind him…Ryan has a long and challenging road ahead but is making progress each and every day – if anyone can come back from this swinging he can – Godspeed Ahead!”

In about a day, $1,396 of the $7,500 goal has been reached by 29 people. A family friend helping to run the gofundme said the family is not releasing more information at this time.

Correction: This story originally reported that the bike accident happened in Ithaca, which is incorrect. The crash happened in Caroline.
