ITHACA, NY – On Tuesday, Ithaca Neighborhood Housing Services was apparently the target of a hacker group identifying themselves as “AnonTigers.”

The group appears to be a group of “hacktivists” who have targeted over a variety of websites around the world, with no obvious connection between them. Aside from INHS, other targets have mostly included a variety of small businesses.

In the case of INHS and several other hacked sites, the homepage of each site is replaced with a logo for the hacker group, and the following message addressed “To all corporate goverments” and “all countries”:

This is to inform All and everyone on the World , that Muslims are not Terrorists.
It is a misconception that Muslims are spreading Terrorism , when in all reality , the Governments are killing innocent’s and they are the true Terrorists.
Islam is a religion of peace and it teaches the most peaceful ways of living. Allah is most beloved to His creatures in this world.
The most beloved prophet Hazrat Muhammad (S.A.W.) was the most loving & honest person which world has ever seen. So , How can His followers be Terrorists.
An insurrectionist who kills a noncombatent is a guilty to islam, any kind of violence is a capital offence in the islamic laws so surely one can say ,
That any one who is responsible for killing of innocent people is not a muslim , and has denied to the words of Quran which say:
“He who kills a man is responsible for killing all mankind”

Opening the page also causes a rap song to be played, which contains similar themes of peaceful Muslims being unfairly labeled as terrorists.

The message also includes the online handles for members of the group, and a link to their Facebook page. On their Facebook page, the group posts a number of URLs to sites that the group has targeted, with hashtags including #hacked and #deface.

Interestingly, this is not the first time that a site related to Ithaca real estate has been targeted by hackers who claim to be tied to an Islamic group. Last year, a group calling themselves “Islamic State Hackers” targeted IthacaBuilds.com, among other seemingly random sites. Those attacks, however, did not include any particular rhetoric.

INHS representatives were not immediately available for comment.

As of 4:45 p.m., the site had been returned to normal.
