On Saturday July 2, 2016 at about 12:11 pm IPD officers responded to 775 South Meadow Street regarding a complaint of a vehicle that had just been stolen from that location. This location is a commercial bank.

Upon arrival officers spoke to the complainant, who advised that he exited his vehicle and left it running while he entered the bank at that location to conduct business. The complainant advised that when he returned to his vehicle he discovered that it was gone.

IPD officers alerted area law enforcement agencies of this incident, including a description of the vehicle and a description of the suspect that was ascertained from the bank’s video surveillance system.

Later that day at approximately 2:00 pm members of the Schuyler County Sheriff Department located the vehicle in Alpine, NY. Deputies detained the vehicle and the operator Harold L. Oliver Jr.

IPD officers responded to their location and determined that Oliver Jr was the same person that they had observed on the bank’s video surveillance system that captured Oliver Jr stealing the motor vehicle.

Oliver Jr was transported back to the Ithaca Police Department and booked on charges of Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree, and Petit Larceny.

The vehicle was returned to it’s owner. Oliver Jr was arraigned in Ithaca City Court and remanded to the Tompkins County Jail without bail.
