ITHACA, N.Y. — What’s the first thing most people reach for when they’re eating something spicy? Based on personal experience, I’d be willing to bet that it’s a cold drink. At The Heights Restaurant and H Bar, they’ve turned this into a one-step process in the form of “The Spicy Pineapple.”

When I took a sip, the first thing I noticed was a formidable kick from the muddled jalapeños. Then, as soon as I first started to think “I need a drink to cool this down,” the fresh pineapple juice extinguished the heat with its pleasant sweetness.

Bartender Amy, the mixologist behind this creation, walked me through how to make one in the video below. Note that, due to technical difficulties with Snapchat, the addition of jalapeño simple syrup isn’t shown in the video.

The Spicy Pineapple is just one of the cocktails on their summer drink menu. As it tends to go with seasonal menus, they’ll be switching things up in the fall. Be sure to catch this and the other summery beverages at The Heights before the summer’s over!
