ULYSSES, N.Y. — A man was airlifted to the hospital Wednesday morning after the motorcycles he was driving and a vehicle collided in the town of Ulysses, police said.

The crash happened around 6:40 a.m. near the intersection of Jacksonville Road and Route 96, Lt. Dan Scherer, of the Trumansburg Fire Department.

He said the motorcycle rider — a man in is early 30s — was taken to a hospital by the Trumansburg Ambulance where a LifeNet helicopter then transported to SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse with serious injuries.

The elderly male driver in the vehicle was injured in the crash.

Scherer said Route 96, between Jacksonville Road and Perry City Road,has been closed in the area since the wreck as New York State Police officials investigate the crash. The roadway is expected to reopen by around 11 a.m.

Officials are still investigating the cause of the wreck.
