ITHACA, NY – On Friday, June 10 at 2:00 PM, the Downtown Ithaca Alliance and City of Ithaca Mayor Svante Myrick will join the Ciferri Family for a dedication of a garden planter at 224 The Commons in memory of the late restaurateur and downtown leader Peter Ciferri.

After serving in Special Forces during the Vietnam War, Ciferri came to Tompkins County in 1971 and instantly fell in love with the area. Three years later, he opened his first store, Fantasy Fair, in the Dewitt Mall.

In the 1980s he opened a deli in Center Ithaca and in the 1990s he purchased Simeon’s on the Commons, near which the planter to be named in his honor is situated. Throughout these decades, Ciferri was a dedicated supporter of the downtown community.

He was an active member of the Commons Advisory Board, the Downtown Business Alliance, and the Downtown Ithaca Alliance’s Marketing and Events Committee. He was instrumental in establishing the forerunners to the Ithaca Festival Craft Show, the Apple Harvest Festival Craft Show, and the Chili Cook-Off. Ciferri passed away in the spring of 2015 at the age of 66.

The dedication ceremony is free and open to the public and members of the press.

He will be honored to know that his memory will continued on in such a beautiful place, and the members of Peter’s family will be honored to have his friends attendance at this event.
