ITHACA, NY – A pedestrian was airlifted to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle on Friday.

According to a news release from the Ithaca Police Department, at around 4:53pm Officers of the IPD responded to the 1000 block of W. State St for a report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a motor vehicle and was still laying in the roadway.

Upon arrival, Officers located the victim laying on his back and bleeding from his head. The male was conscious and able to communicate with medical personnel who were tending to his wounds.

A witness on scene told police that the victim had been crossing the street, in an area not designated for crossing, when he was struck by westbound traffic. The driver of the motor vehicle was not injured.

The victim was flown to a regional trauma center with non-life-threatening injuries.
