Update: Ithaca police said at 8:55 a.m. that all lanes on the 700 block of South Meadow Street in Ithaca have been reopened to regular traffic. A downed utility line closed the area for at least three hours Tuesday morning.

ITHACA, N.Y. — A downed utility line has shut down all lanes on the 700 block of South Meadow Street in Ithaca Tuesday morning from Wood to South streets, police have said.

Additional street closures are likely as NYSEG works to repair the line.

Passersby have said that traffic is being rerouted through nearby parking lots. Officials are asking people to plan alternate routes to avoid traffic congestion.

It’s unclear how long the road will be closed, officials said.
