Carmen Dechellis, 55, pleaded guilty to felony aggravated harassment of an employee by an inmate. He was initially facing five misdemeanors, a violation and the felony for a January 5 incident.

He’s accused of standing in a roadway and hitting cars, and then attacking officers when they arrived at the scene to take him into custody. Dechellis is also accused of defecating and urinating in his holding cell and throwing the waste at officers.

His assigned attorney Max Brown said in court during a bail hearing in January that he did not know the mental capacity of Dechellis to understand the proceedings.

As part of the plea Thursday, Assistant District Attorney said he’d recommend a one to three year sentence and restitution, if any, would be minimal. The court agreed to cap the sentence at one year of local incarceration.

A jail official said Friday that Dechellis is still in custody at the Tompkins County Jail.
