SCHUYLER COUNTY, N.Y. — Several Tompkins County fire departments responded to a fire at a single-family home Sunday afternoon in Schuyler County

The fire happened at 2:42 p.m. Sunday on Stilwell Road, officials said.
A member of the family had allegedly tied to put the flames out with a fire extinguisher but was overcome by heat and smoke. Firefighters said the family was outside when they got to the home. No injuries were reported.
Most of the fire was put out within about 10 minutes after firefighters were able to tackle the blaze with hand lines. Crews from the Trumansburg Fire Department, along with Mecklenburg and Enfield Fire Departments, were able to clear the scene by about 4 p.m. The Ovid and Hector Fire Departments were on stand-by.
Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire.
