ITHACA, N.Y. — Police said a Cornell student was assaulted by a group of people during an on-campus fight early Sunday morning.

Cornell University Police said the incident happened at 2:20 a.m. Sunday near Myron Taylor Hall, on College Avenue in the city of Ithaca.

The male told police that he was trying to help a non-Cornell friend who was involved with a fight between several other men and a female. The male was then confronted by the group, along with several other people, and assaulted.

The group fled south on College avenue.

Officials said the male had “substantial injuries” but declined medical treatment.

The cause of the fight and the suspects involved have not been identified, officials said. Police are asking anyone with information about the crime to call CUP at 607-255-1111.
