Officers said they responded to a home in the town of Covert after a domestic dispute was reported, according to the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office. Police said the victim of the crime had “extensive injuries” and was taken to Cayuga Medical Center before being taken to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania.

Don P. Sipp, 40, of Trumansburg, was taken into custody and is charged with two counts of first-degree assault — one for intent to disfigure or dismember another seriously and permanently, and the other with intent to cause serious injury with a weapon.

Sipp was arraigned at the town of Fayette court and is being held without bail. He’s scheduled to appear in court again April 14.

Police said the case is under investigation.
