The Caroline Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization (PTA) will host a Family STEAM night on Thursday, April 21 from 6:00pm–8:00pm at Caroline Elementary. This event is free and open to all elementary students in the area and their families.
STEAM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering, arts, and math and was developed by the National Science Foundation (STEM) and the Rhode Island School of Design (+A) to promote STEAM education for earlier grades. During the Family STEAM Night at Caroline, parents and children will move from station to station, participating in different activities geared towards teaching STEAM principles.
Organizations setting up activity stations confirmed at the time of this press release include Cayuga Nature Center, Caroline Physical Education Program, Ithaca Physics Bus, Lab of Ornithology’s Education Program, Cornell Biomedical Engineering Society, Women in Computing at Cornell, Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s Bioacoustics Research Program, Taitem Engineering, Cornell Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, SUNY Binghamton Physics Department, XRAISE Cornell (Accelerator-based Sciences and Education Program), Cornell EYES (Encouraging Young Engineers and Scientists), Cornell FSAE (Formula SAE Team), Caroline Art Program, Cornell CUAUV (Cornell University Autonomous Underwater Vehicle), Code Red Robotics, Cornell College Mentors for Kids, Cornell Partners in Health, Hammerstone School, Caroline Lego Club, Southside Community Center, Ithaca College Women in Computing, Ithaca High School Technology Student Association and Caroline Pre-K.
Every family will receive a map of the organization locations and a description of the various activities when they arrive at the school. A limited number of promotional STEAM bags and a STEAM related books will be given away for free to families when they arrive.
