TOMPKINS COUNTY, NY – On Wednesday, May 4th, Tompkins County will hold the second Giving Is Gorges, a countywide day of giving.
The 24 hour online challenge celebrates local nonprofits and affirms our community’s culture of giving. More than 50 area nonprofits have already signed up for the event. Last year, the event coincided with the grand reopening of the Ithaca Commons. Tompkins County donors raised over $118,000 for 120 nonprofits in just 24 hours on Giving is Gorges day.
The event will begin at 12:01 a.m. on May 4th and continue until midnight the same night. Any local nonprofits that wish to participate can register visiting the Giving is Gorges website, powered by GiveGab. Local residents can encourage their favorite nonprofits to participate and donate.
Community partners include the Community Foundation of Tompkins County, the Finger Lakes Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce.

“A total of 1,655 individual donations were made ranging from $5 to $3,000 to 120 nonprofits by 1,050 donors, proving that residents of Tompkins County were not only willing to give, but to give more than once and to multiple organizations,” said George Ferrari, CEO of the Community Foundation of Tompkins County.
