The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office announced on Thursday that they had completed their investigation into the incident.
At about 3 p. m. on Sunday, February 28, Groton police officer Jon P. Shingledecker was driving down Route 222 in Groton, responding to an emergency call when he struck the rear end of a vehicle that was turning onto Williams Street.
The collision sent Shingledecker’s car careening into a utility pole. The officer was uninjured.
The driver of the other vehicle, Ventura Atkinson of Groton, was transported to Cayuga Medical Center after the accident, where he was treated for a non-life threatening injury.
The Sheriff’s Office issued Shingledecker a ticket for operating a motor vehicle at speeds not reasonable and prudent for the conditions.
